Arctic Culture Center
Hammerfest - first prize
At the top of Norway, Hammerfest presents itself as the
world’s northernmost town and a natural centre of the
region. In addition to the proximity to the North Cape,
this establishes it as one of the most important tourist
destinations in Northern Norway, with over 250.000 visitors
each year. The project is a part of the bigger seafront
development and is highly visible from both land and sea.
The goal is to provide new program and architectural
characteristics to the site, ensuring an attractive and
beautiful town centre, contributing to the development and
strengthening of the town’s identity.
The program is organized in compact units in such a way
that in-between spaces with different degrees of public
access are created, and the numbers of public areas are
maximized. These social “arenas”, both in and outdoors,
connects the Culture Centre to the city of Hammerfest.
