the Aluminium forest
Houten - first prize
The Aluminium Centre crowns
the treetops of the aluminium woodland,
above slender stems through which
the flickering Dutch light filters, falters
and reflects.
A glass elevator operates between
ground level and the
silver-coloured
aluminium box,
six meters up, six meters down,
smoothly and soundlessly.
The wind whooshes outside, sings and
resonates
round many hundred trembling pillars.
Inside, sun-sluiced patios channel the light,
the air, the space, the warmth,
shunting them
along appropriate tracks,
aspiring to the tiniest possible
span
and the most optimal environmental
balance.
A feather-light construction,
a building lit-up and illuminating
Space, landscape and the earth's ore,
united.
