The analysis on the pre-existence showed the building volumetric incompatibility with
the features of the program. The project proposes to demolish the interior of the
building, keeping however the outer wall in respect of its historicized relationship with
the city. The small size of the building suggested the choice of creating a space as flexible
as possible. The hypothesis is to minimize the size of the pillars, to turn them into tie
rods, which, reacting only to traction stress, would have required a significantly lower
section. Form and structure contribute to lighten and to make a few elements in a
continuous interchange of the parts which reinforces the temporary and floating
impression of the project.
